Recurrent yeast infections may be a sign of a serious health problem

Elevated blood sugar, poor immune function, and certain medications can compromise the body's ability to guard against yeast infections. Women experiencing symptoms of a vaginal infection for the first time should be evaluated by a healthcare practitioner before self-medicating. Yeast infections can be treated with prescription medications, and over-the-counter and prescription topical preparations. A full course of treatment is recommended to avoid recurrent infections. In some cases maintenance therapy may help stave-off chronic yeast infections.
